A cemetery plot in Riverside is selling for $3,500. In Colton, one goes for $6,500 or you can save $1,000 by getting two. A plot in Bloomington is a relative bargain at $1,200.
Those are among the growing number of cemetery plots listed on Craigslist, eBay and Web sites devoted to buyers and sellers of plots. The increase is a result of rising cremation rates, the declining economy and people scattering across the country and no longer feeling an allegiance to a hometown cemetery, Web site operators and cemetery brokers said.
