…It’s about Forest Lawns, the Los Angeles graveyard in which some of the most famous stars are buried. As a confessed movie junkie, I once took a bus to Forest Lawns and spent a day gawking at the tombs of Hollywood legends. It is truly one of the most bizarre sights on the planet, where death is presented as a costly status symbol. There are posh “neighbourhoods” where the superstars are interred. Then there are those from the wrong side of the celebrity tracks, as if death could tell the difference.
I am glad I went, but I will never do it again. In fact, I had not given Forest Lawns a thought for years until I read about a guy who was ready to pay R30-million for the privilege of lying on top of Marilyn Monroe for eternity.
