If you were rich in this life, then I imagine you’d want to continue living with the Joneses in your next

…It’s about Forest Lawns, the Los Angeles graveyard in which some of the most famous stars are buried. As a confessed movie junkie, I once took a bus to Forest Lawns and spent a day gawking at the tombs of Hollywood legends. It is truly one of the most bizarre sights on the planet, where death is presented as a costly status symbol. There are posh “neighbourhoods” where the superstars are interred. Then there are those from the wrong side of the celebrity tracks, as if death could tell the difference.

I am glad I went, but I will never do it again. In fact, I had not given Forest Lawns a thought for years until I read about a guy who was ready to pay R30-million for the privilege of lying on top of Marilyn Monroe for eternity.

A source told Britain’s Daily Star newspaper: “Britney is fascinated with Marilyn and visits her grave often. Since she’s been getting her life together she’s been reading about the star and recently has been glued to a book about the actress.”

Individuals and businesses have been using Ebay’s online auctions as a source to buy and sell a variety of goods and services since it’s founding in the mid 90′s. Millions of collectibles, decor, appliances, computers, furnishings, equipment, vehicles have been sold and more are listed every day.

But how about your cemetery property, should you list it next to Pez dispensers and computer parts? Recently the profile of eBay’s listing services for cemetery property was brought into the news when the crypt above Marilyn Monroe was auctioned for sale on the service.

Under eBay’s “Everything Else” category, they have a section for Funeral and Cemetery items, and more specifically Cemetery Plots. Plots range in price from the tens of thousands to as low as a few hundred dollars. Options for listings vary from a simple classified ad, a “Buy it Now” or “Best Offer” listing to the traditional auction listing. Free shipping is usually a given.

On Thursday evening (September 3), during a private ceremony for family and close friends, Michael Jackson was laid to rest at Forest Lawn cemetery in Glendale, California, inside an enormous structure called the Great Mausoleum.

The building’s architectural design was inspired by the Campo Santo in Italy, an elaborate cemetery constructed in the 13th century and used as a burial ground for Italian elites for hundreds of years. The Great Mausoleum has been called the “New World’s Westminster Abbey” by Time magazine, according to Forest Lawn’s Web site.
